This one is really top priority because I really want to get out and meet new friends and try new activities but am being blocked by a lifelong social phobia. It started when I was in elementary school when I had a teacher and teachers aide who always spoke sternly and reacted in an unfirendly manner whenever I approached them. This really traumatized me and left me with the impression that all people were like that. The result was a persistent and burning fear of getting an angry or unfriendly response from a stranger when I first meet him or her which triggers immense anxiety until he or she proves him or herself to be friendly, then once I get to know the person and see him or her more often then I completely warm up to him/her. Because of that I was extremely shy growing up and had few friends from avoiding other children due to extreme fear. It used to be so bad when I was younger that I would refuse to go to school because I was so scared of everyone. But thankfully it's not so bad now thanks to a new medication that I'm on but still I get uncomfortable around new friends because of that fear of rejection or unfriendly response. How can I get rid of that image and say goodby to that fear for good and finally put my social anxiety to rest so that I can finally go outa and live my life for a change?

Sounds like a good suggestion Angelique but I will need to go about it in a way in which I can keep it hidden from my mother because she is one of those bible believing Christians who consders hypnotism to be demonic. However, I do not agree with her viewpoints but do not wish to upset or anger her for I love her very much. Gimel what is your take on this and what is your suggestion on what I should do? -

Social Anxiety and Social Phobia's are more common than you think, as a child I was also VERY shy. As a result was also selectively mute, thank goodness I'm not anymore
There are plenty of resources out there for those suffering from social phobia's/disorders. I would recommend signing up on a forum and relating you're experiences, it can really help to ease off those feelings of dread and fear relating to you’re social phobia.
Good luck and God Bless -
