Grounding and Balancing the Chakras

Chakras are basically energy centers in our bodies, which receive and regulate Universal Energy. Although there is much debate on how many chakras we have, for our purposes we are concerned with the seven major chakras and their corresponding colors:

Root Charka - Red
Sacral Chakra - Orange
Solar Plexus Chakra - Yellow
Heart Chakra - Green
Throat Chakra - Blue
Third Eye Chakra - Indigo
Crown Chakra - Orange

To put it as simply as possible, if the chakras are balanced, energy flows freely and we feel our best. If they are unbalanced, energy flow may be blocked or too slow, we feel less than our best.

Sometimes it is useful to ground yourself before balancing your chakras, particularly if your emotions are high or you are feeling unusually out of touch with things. Everybody talks about grounding, but no one really tells you how to do it. Although there are many methods, the easiest one is by focusing on parts of your body starting with your feet.

As you begin, try to quiet your mind by your body feet. How do they feel? Are they cold, or tingling? Feel warmth flood into your feet as you focus on them. ? Once you have identified this, move up to your calves and do the same continuing up your body until you reach the top of your head.

The following is a list of focused flow you might find helpful: Feet, Ankles, Calves, Knees, Thighs, Buttocks and Hips, Naval, Midriff, Chest, Upper Arms, Forearms, Wrists, Hands, Shoulders, Neck, Mouth, Nose, Eyes, Top of Head.

Once you reach the top of your head take a few moments to enjoy the sense of well being you have once grounded to this beautiful earth plane.

Although stones and crystals corresponding to the chakras are not necessary, many find them useful in assisting them to balance. One can use many different stones, but you should find the ones that make you feel comfortable, when you use them. The most effective way to use these stones is to find a quiet place or a place with little activity. Begin by holding the stone comfortably in either hand. Close your eyes and take two or three deep slow breaths.

Visualize a disc of light in the color corresponding to the chakra you are working to balance. Imagine this disc glowing brightly and warmly. Begin to see it spin gently and slowly to the left in a counter clockwise motion. See it spinning gently until the disc becomes a ball of light. Be patient. If you do not see and feel the spin, continue concentrating on the flood of color, disc, and slowly nudge it with your mind to begin spinning to the left in a counter-clockwise motion. Begin to feel the motion in that part of your body and you will achieve your goal. Once this is accomplished, that chakra is balanced. Take a few moments to enjoy the motion and light.

Note that some people feel the stone getting warmer and warmer during the process of balancing. Do not be concerned at this, it is quite normal and can be an indication of your progress. Conversely, do not be concerned if you do not feel the stone getting warmer. It all depends on the sensitivity of the user.

Continue to move through all of your stones while activating and balancing all of your chakras.

Closing your chakras:

As we work to balance our chakras, we activate them as well. It is very important to close the chakra system after doing balance work. This does not mean they are not spinning and flowing, it means that you close down the “system” so that there is no energy loss. Energy loss leads to imbalance such as headaches and fatigue.  Not closing the system would cause imbalances that are more serious, in the long term.

To do this, envision your chakras, all aligned and spinning. Close the system by envisioning and feeling a white ball of energy flowing up through your chakras from your crown chakra to your root chakra, then turning around, and flowing down again. Follow the white light energy until you feel, and envision an even easy flow between all your chakras with no blockages. Your chakras are now balanced and the system is now closed.
